ExceedingExpectations How many times do you get one of these surveys, specially after buying a new car, where they expect you to fill them giving them always the top score? (Meaning that they have exceeded all your expectations). If we had to follow the car dealers standards, "Exceeding Expectations" would mean an OK service… Or did they delivered the car directly to your door at work or at home? Did they give you an incredible discount or did something so out of the ordinary that you were in shock and awe (and not in a negative way!) because it greatly surprised you? All the dealers do this, it is part of their service, so we expect this from them and we would get disappointed (or just take our business elsewhere) if we didn’t get these perks. I guess that we should rate most car dealers with 3 stars (average) although th

This allows you to measure if your investment in a coupon program is worth it. The problem that I had with my previous coupon company wasn’t the coupon offers themselves but the audience that they ta

Spending Your Restaurant Marketing Budget Wisely (1st part) A few years ago, I bought my first restaurant. It was a turnkey operation; a charming small and upscale Italian restaurant with loyal clientele in a great location. The previous owner was an experienced guy who spent all his life in the restaurant business. I still remember what he told us about the restaurant: “It is working fine. Don t change anything. . . ” For a while, I complied. I didn t have really much experience running a restaurant, and as they say: "If it ain t broke, don t fix it" right? So we kept on running the business as he was doing, including repeating his marketing investments and advertising expenses. Well, after a few months I realized that we were spending a large amount of money (several thousand dollars each month) in marketing. Now, I am fine with spending marketing dollars if I can see the results of my marketing expenses, which, in the case of a restaurant, appears as people walking through th
