Solar Power On Increase For Housing Associations & Local Authorities Clean, quiet and environmentally friendly, photovoltaic solar panels are increasingly being specified for installation on housing association and local authority projects. They not only help tackle the challenge of climate change but offer a cost-effective way to meet the ever-increasing sustainability levels demanded for both new and existing homes. Solar photovoltaic(PV) is a simple renewable energy system where solar cells are used to convert sunlight into solar electricity. These cells consist of thin layers of a semiconducting material, usually silicon, which generates an electric charge when exposed to daylight. Photovoltaic panels (Navitron. org. uk & Mapenvironmental. co. uk) can be tailored to meet specific requirements, with installation seamlessly assimilated into new build or renovation programmes. PV panels come in various forms, and using solar PV roof tiles (SolarTiles. co. uk) or roof integration s

Solar Panels Would Help Government Achieve Green Targets Solar panels could soon become a far more prominent component of homes in this country, as the government continues to try and implement its ‘green’ home improvements. Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband last month announced the government’s new plans for a green transformation of British homes to cut emissions from homes by 29% by 2020, and solar panels could have a key part to play. The green homes, warmer homes strategy will enable homeowners to gain access to ‘pay as you save’ finance for green home improvements and make smarter use of the energy in their homes. The government aims to help seven million households to benefit from eco upgrades, which in turn will create up to 65,000 jobs in the green home industry. This means that more people may start to lead a more eco-friendly way of life, like using solar panels to provide solar water heating systems, for example. The roof provides an enormous amount of sp

Solar Cells to Become More Efficient And Economical With more solar cell developers working on creating the next-generation of superefficient solar cells, it is safe to say that the future is bright for solar energy. Solar cells (as the name implies) are designed to convert (at least a part of) available light into electrical energy. Whatever the concepts and design behind creating solar cells; whether growing photovoltaic crystals, using carbon nanotubes, applying special coatings, or an alternative concept, one thing is for sure. Regular scientific breakthroughs, as far as new and improved solar cells are concerned, promises cheaper, more efficient solar power energy. Only last month (March 2010), scientists claimed that they were using technology, originally developed by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, to create solar energy that was four times more efficient and three times cheaper than existing solar cells. Each solar module features a concentrating acrylic lens

Opening up renewable energy Feed-in Tariffs are about to open up renewable energy generation to a whole new group of individuals, communities and companies by providing the financial incentives to make small scale renewable electricity generation, a cost effective, easy and mainstream choice. The Government will implement the Feed-in Tariff or ‘Clean Energy Cashback Scheme’ this April. The idea is to pay for the energy generated and exported to the electricity network by renewable generation systems and, therefore, further extend electrical power generation beyond the traditional energy companies. Benefiting both household and business users, the Tariff supports all renewable electricity generation sources up to five megawatts including hydro-power, wind power, combined heat and power (CHP) and solar photovoltaic (PV) - one of the most popular systems - which generate electricity using nothing but daylight. The credits given for the electricity will be guaranteed at the same rate f
