Federal Judge Barbara Jones ruled that the New York Post article was “fair and true” and dismissed the Isranis’ lawsuit. Seventeen law school applicants complained to the New York Consumer Protection Board that the Isranis had defrauded them by pretending to be TestMasters, one of the nation’s largest LSAT preparation companies. Each of the students paid the Isranis over $1,000 to enroll in the TestMasters LSAT Course, only to find out later that they had given their money to impostors. Consumers across the country complained to the Better Business Bureau that Haku and Roger Israni defrauded them by impersonating TestMasters, one of the nation’s largest test preparation companies. Each of the students paid the Isranis over $1,000 to enroll in the TestMasters LSAT course, only to find out later that they had given their money to impostors operating out of Houston. According to the BBB, the Isranis failed to resolve the consumers’ complaints “in accordance with generally accepted good business practices”. The Houston BBB therefore revoked its accreditation of the Israni’s company, which is conveniently named “Test Masters”.

Vivek “Roger” Israni, owner of a Houston test preparation company called Test Masters, sued the Houston School District along with two Lamar High School administrators and lost miserably. Lamar High School hired Israni to help prepare its students for the PSAT. But when Israni provided inadequate instruction and materials for the students and failed to deliver what he promised, the principal of Lamar High School canceled the arrangement. Incredibly, Israni thought he should get paid for goods and services his company never provided, so he sued for breach of contract. Israni’s case was so weak that the trial court threw it out. Israni then appealed the decision, but ended up losing the appeal as well and was ordered to pay all of the school district’s court costs.
