Leeds Local Improvement Finance Trust has announced financial close. The move marks the official formation of Leeds LIFT Ltd, a new company owned by Leeds City Council, the 5 PCT’s in Leeds, Primaria and Partnerships for Health. The new company will bring together health and social care organisations, local government, and private sector companies to deliver a co-ordinated approach to improve community-based services and facilities The investment will allow the contracting authorities, which include the 5 Primary Care Trusts in Leeds, Leeds City Council, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds Mental Health Teaching NHS Trust and West Yorkshire Metropolitan Ambulance Service to develop facilities in areas where they are really needed. LIFT also supports the Council’s objectives by stimulating regeneration and helping create training and employment opportunities for local people. As the finishing touches are being made to the new buildings, plans are already advancing for the next phase. This will provide a new set of challenges and expectations to be met and exceeded. This will pose an exciting opportunity to make further improvements and a difference, to the delivery of Community Health and Social Care. The ceremony was attended by local Councillor Kabeer Hussain; Cllr Peter Harrand Exec Board member for Social care & health; Cllr Brian Jennings Exec Board member for Children’s Services; retired GPs from the former Woodhouse Health centre; representatives from Leeds City Council Social Services; representatives from Sure Start; Drs and staff from Dr Kinghorn’s practice; Brian Marsden Chair Leeds North East PCT; Thea Stein Chief Exec Leeds North East PCT; Trevor Plows Leeds North East PCT; representative from local pharmacies; patients from the Chiropody clinic; Nigel Fenny Chief Exec for Leeds LIFT Limited and Tom Delamotte Regional Director Miller Construction (UK) Limited. Over the past four years we have invested significantly in a range of building projects throughout the area. This has seen improvements at health centres such as Bramley Clinic and Pudsey Health Centre and the building of New Wortley Health Centre, which opened in 2005. In January 2005,over 100people, including PCTstaff, councillors, local council officers, GPpractice staff and members of the local community attended the official opening of the Armley Moor Health Centre. The new centre, which is used to provide a wide range of enhanced primary care servicesfor local people, was officially opened by the Rt Hon John Battle, MP for West Leeds.
