Lisa’s law –Maurice Williams, the Underground staff writer Lisa McClendon is a neo-soul vocalist and songwriter. She is also a Christian, a fact she never hides. However, after reading a letter she posted on MySpace recently, I don‟t know if I can get behind her brand of Christianity. In her letter, she talks about a recent trip to the UK. She said that everyone says “damn,” even people in church. We have made some traditions doctrines that God never set in place. A lot of things we call, “not of God,” is not necessarily, “not of God” as much as it is “not of our culture. ” (ah ha!!) You don’t think so??? Ok then, tell me, how can you go into Africa and tell that man with more than one wife, he’s in sin or that it is not of God, when it is his culture to have more than one wife. I KNOW SOME OF Y’ALL ARE MESSED UP RIGHT NOW!! We confuse culture with God. Music makes the people come together –Tiffany Orr, the Underground, editor My sister came to visit me the other day. She‟s my best friend, but I hadn‟t seen her in a while. So as we were catching up, for some reason I told her about my disillusionment with the recording industry. I told her how the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, the organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide, just won its lawsuit against the Pirate Bay, a popular BitTorrent tracking site, for copyright infringement. Why did the IFPI single out the Pirate Bay? Why not shut down all the torrent trackers around the world, I asked her. The Pirate Bay doesn‟t even host any of the files. It‟s just a search engine for the files. If anyone is guilty of copyright infringement, it‟s not the people who run the site. Silence. America: No Longer a Christian Nation? –Marcene Taff, the Underground staff writer In 1886, The Atlantic Monthly described George Eliot as “post-Christian,” using the term as a synonym for atheist or agnostic. The broader and perhaps more politically correct definition, is that “post-Christian” characterizes a period of time that follows the decline of the importance of Christianity in a region or society. This use of the phrase first appeared in the 1929 book, “America Set Free,” by the German philosopher Hermann Keyserling. The term post-Christian became popular during what scholars have referred to as the “death of God” movement in the radical 1960s. I remember as a child, seeing hippies on the news, carrying protest signs that said “GOD IS DEAD. ” Read the rest of the story here: http://theundergroundsite. com/index. php/2009/04/americano-longer-a-christian-nation/ Read more of Marcene’s writings here: http://theundergroundsite. com Subscribe to the RSS feed: http://feeds2. fee

It’s really about forgiveness –James Wait, the Underground staff writer Recently, “thousands of issues of BYU‟s student newspapers were pulled from newsstands because a front-page caption misidentified leaders of the Mormon Church as apostates instead of apostles,” according to the Associated Press. Though some people might think the typo was a Freudian slip to the highest degree, I think this story is actually about forgiveness. The BYU students made a huge mistake, but it was quickly rectified. But the greatest part of this story is that they were forgiven.
