We have analyzed what factors move adults to study and what reasons take them to register in formative activities and use part of their time to increase their knowledge. On the other hand, we needed to know the problems and difficulties these adults encounter. The results* to the questionnaire are the following: RESULTS OF THE SURVEY 1. MAIN REASON TO STUDY The reasons that are the most important for adults to study. 4% Achieve a Degree to avoid loosing his or her job. 18% Achieve a Degree to get a job when you are jobless. 21% Achieve a Degree to get a better job or job position. 28% Complete unfinished studies to continue to higher education. 11% Achieve necessary kno

XVIII ACTIVIDADES EXPEDICIÓN DE SMITH Y VON BUCH EN 1815 A GRAN CANARIA EXPEDICIONES CIENTÍFICAS Christen Smith, botánico noruego, murió en 1816, en la exploración del Rio Congo a causa de unas fiebres, y no tuvo tiempo de publicar su manuscrito que fue transcrito en 1889 por F. C. Kiaer y redescubierto por la Fundación gracias al especialista noruego Per Sunding. Estaba manuscrito y contenía toda la información, los comentarios y ocurrencias que Smith había ido anotando a pie de camino durante los meses que estuvo con von Buch recorriendo las islas en 1815. Leopold von Buch publicó Physicalische Beschreibung der Canarischen Inseln (1825), sobre la descripción física de las islas Canarias, prestando especial atención a los fenómenos volcánicos. A este geógrafo y geólogo alemán se debe la introducción del término geológico “caldera”.
