The controversy is still going on , over a hundred years after his death, and it s all based on the finding of 18 pages tha t were missing from the diary of John Wilkes Booth . These pages turned up in the family o f Edwin Stanton, who had been Lincoln s Secretary of War, and who had been linked by rumor s to the assassination plot .
