However this has all changed as Britain now has a coalition Government composed of Conservatives (David Cameron PM) and LiberalDemocrats (Nick Clegg, deputy PM). The main change perhaps that has taken place over the past twenty years is that the ideological differences have become more blurred and voters seem to concentrate more on the personality of the candidates than on the ideas they represent. The impact of a fairly recent phenomenon, spin, is one aspect of this evolution. Spin is all about image and media success with the help of special advisers called spin-doctors, who work to enhance the public image of their leader. Tony Blair, former PM, made use of this to his advantage. But let’s look first at the characteristics of the three main parties in Britain. 1. The Conservative Party
