Elderly residents who used to meet at the
popular Pop in Parlour in Hadlow Road, Sidcup
are angry that their Pop in Parlour is still
boarded up after two years so much so they
organised a Petition which has been presented
to local charity Age Concern.
They say "it is now two years since we were
relocated through no fault of ours.
Building work was being done and the flats
refurbished and residents have moved in.
Where is the care in the community for the aged
in Sidcup? We need action now to have our
Parlour opened up and made ready for social
meetings again".
Beside the boarded Parlour In Hadlow Road,
Sidcup, Age Concern manage a Day Centre on
behalf of Bexley Council in their main building
which has also recently been refurbished by L &
Q Bexley Homes.
Director David Gannicott told the Chronicle so
far as he was concerned there was no problem
with L&Q and they were just awaiting the goahead from Bexley Councils building inspector
before the place could be reopened.
Now it seems a row has erupted behind the
scenes over changes needed by the Day Centre
who require some alterations made before they
can move their goods from the boarded up
Parlour to enable the members of the Pop in
Parlour to return.
Neither the Council or L&Q Bexley Homes can
agree who is to pay the £8,000 to pay for the
alterations at the Day Centre so the elderly
residents will have to continue using the
temporary accommodation at the top of Sidcup
Hill which they say they are very grateful for but
it is very inconvenient for many members who
no longer go to meetings.
Elderly at Heron Court
At the opposite end of Sidcup in the Longlands
Ward elderly residents say they are still being
hounded by L & Q Bexley Homes to move out
of Heron Court so that the site can be
redeveloped.
Over six months ago the Chronicle asked David
Gannicott at L & Q what the position was
regarding these residents who have slowly been
isolated and are now living on the island site
with up to fourteen perfectly good flats
surrounding them empty! Gannicott told us
that any resident who didn t want to move could
stay and the development would not go ahead!
Sadly the councils housing department seem
unwilling to face up to this successful housing
association and demand that the empty flats be
let.
Likewise, the three part-time conservative
councillors who represent the residents, Ken
McAndrew and Gareth Bacon who live in the
Ward and Michael Slaughter seem to be
unaware of the residents plight!

The Mayor of Bexley Councillor Nick O’Hare
and Mayoress Mrs Maria O’Hare were Guests
of Honour at the Jalsha Tandoori Restaurant in
Station Road, Sidcup on Tuesday 5th May,
when the venue celebrated its quarter century.
This was the second visit by their worships,

capacities as Deputy Mayor and Deputy
Mayoress in September 2007 at one of the
restaurant’s charity evenings.
An enthusiastic dance party ensued, as Shenton
Dixon, a West End show star, performed his
usual amazingly authentic tributes in his

Benson complete with guitar, Louis Armstrong
on trumpet, the funky Stevie Wonder, and
