Crayford’s New Bridge
Two of Crayford’s ward councillors and local
traders gathered near Waterside Gardens to watch
the lifting into position of the town’s new footbridge.
The bridge is part of a project to redevelop Waterside Gardens which will also include a water feature, an amphitheatre, a remembrance area and a
new coffee shop.
The park will formally re-open
early in the summer following completion of the
work and establishment of the new plants and
lawn.
“All the features in the new Waterside Gardens
have a historic link to Crayford’s industrial past,
so what we’re beginning to see is a lovely new park
emerging in the centre of the town, that pays tribute to the area’s rich history,” said Cllr John Waters, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and
Housing.
“In just a few weeks the park will be complete and
we expect people of all ages and walks of life to be
enjoying this little haven in the middle of the busy
town centre.
There will be something here for
everyone in the community.
”
The project is part of a £2.
1m town centre regeneration scheme, being funded through a grant the
London Borough of Bexley secured from the
Homes and Community Agency as part of the
Thames Gateway Regeneration programme.
It is
aimed at transforming and modernising the area
and making it more attractive for residents and
shoppers, as well as helping to improve trade for
local businesses.

Morrisons supermarkets will
soon be dominant players in
Bexley with a new store in
Welling to sit alongside those in
Thamesmead, Erith and Sidcup.
The new Welling store is scheduled to open toward the year end or early 2010 on the old CoOperative store site.
The company say the massive 64,000 sq ft store will bring Morrisons
unique Market Street offering to Welling customers, including a fresh fish counter, butchers
counter, oven fresh counter and bakery, staffed
by expertly trained craftspeople.
As the store begins to take shape the pharmacy
and post office will be temporarily relocated in
the store’s car park, to allow work to continue
inside.
The facilities will remain fully operational for customers and will be accessible from
the car park to the rear of the store.
