accommodation in Bexley heard the
news that a new provider was to
take over the payment to wardens
and other care staff they were disillusioned when staff from L&Q and
Bexley Council met with them but
refused to discuss the future of the
six homes they plan to close.
London & Quadrant Bexley Homes own all
sixteen of Bexley’s sheltered accommodation
units which were originally set up to house people who were getting on in years yet still functioned independently.
Lots of people who transferred to these places gave up three and four bed
roomed houses which were then allocated to
young growing families who needed housing.
Some said at the time it was among the best decisions made by a local authority.
When the
Conservative run Council decided to sell off
Bexley’s council housing stock in 1998, for a fraction of today s values, no-one thought to put in
place a scheme whereby the council had some
control over the sixteen sheltered
