The Anglican church of St John’s Sidcup, which
faces costly essential refurbishment of its lighting
systems and equipment if it is not to face a
possible future threat of being condemned, has
embarked on an ambitious fund raising campaign
to raise more than £60,000 with the support and
hoped for generosity of local residents, the
business community and grant making bodies.
Whilst the church provides a venue for various
social and community groups as well as a regular
place of worship, the present lighting and power
to the building is inadequate and in a poor state of
repair, such that the need to engage specialist
approved contractors has become a priority.
However, the financial challenge of such a project
and ongoing maintenance of the building is a
daunting task to the team of volunteers, church
supporters and the Parish community, itself quite
small compared with other larger more wealthy
areas.
