You can tiptoe in the shallows or take a dive in the deep end. Artsnet is the means by which people passionate about culture in the city can engage in the regeneration process. Artsnet runs the Culture Pool - one of seven themed groups - which are part of the Community Network for Manchester. The pool is linked to the Cultural Partnership and the means by which the voluntary community sector can engage with strategic activity. Culture in Manchester encompasses arts, heritage & sport, so if you re a community or voluntary group with an interest in any of these themes and have something to say, contribute or comment on regarding regeneration and cultural activity with the city, then get in touch. If you ve a triumph to celebrate, tell Artsnet, if you have to call foul play, come and see us. The Culture Pool meets four times a year, and we like to give new members a chance to learn in the shallows before they dive in. If you ve an event or need some support, Artsnet can promote your activity through the newsletter, e-bulletin or website. If you ve some balls to juggle, plates to spin and new hurdles to jump then tap into the spirit of Olympic triumphs and hard won battles: the Culture Pool s open for a splash. Artsnet is also about advocacy. Although a small project, we jump, wave, shout and stamp in order to show how the arts can support a wide range of initiatives. We recently produced a very successful pack of playing cards, promoting 52 different examples of diverse projects which support key regeneration themes in the city. You can find a digital version of them at www. artsnetmanchester. co. uk. You can enjoy a game of Solitaire, and call it research. PDF large-format versions of the cards are also available for you to look at. If you re organising an event around young people, health, economics or sustainability please get in touch with Artsnet. We ve a wonderful magician who can come and promote the arts and help support your agenda. His last outing was in March at the Arteries Arts & Health conference in the Lowry, and his presence livens up events whilst helping to promote a serious message. Finally, Artsnet and the Culture Pool are developing an artist residency project. This isn t intended to be a community art project. The work will show 7 artists’ individual responses to the work of the networks and the themes of the pools (some of which may share agendas). The project aims to highlight the varied approaches and insights of artists, as opposed to utilising their skills towards a predestined “outcome” If you don’t know about community networks, but know what you want and you re an artist, then please get in touch with sue@can. uk. com with your details. More info is included elsewhere in this newsletter. Toolkit now runs a free "Artists Job Club" on the last Monday of each month.
