Ar 1 & Windows Live" Summer House in Neighbours Garden From: Jim Leake (jim_leake@msn. com) Sent: 20 August 2008 15:33:55 To: newsshopper—letters@london. newsquest. co. uk Newsshopper I was saddened to read the letter from Mr and Mrs Wadey (Newsshopper 20 August) where they record the lengths that they felt it necessary to go to suppress the use of their neighbours garden so that the use fell in line with the Wadey s thinking etc. I m put in mind of an occasion a few years ago when I was approached for a view on my neighbours wish to extend the lowered pavement out side my house, to double it in effect, to grant my neighbour a similar facility for vehicular access. I offered the Planning Officer a quick view that the change didn t impact on me and I couldn t possible have objections. The Planning Officer seemed stunned. When I queried his surprise he said that it was the standard response of neighbours to oppose virtually everything and my agreement to this particular scheme was MOST UNUSUAL! Now I was stunned. Are homeowners really that mean and small minded? And I cannot sympathise with someone whose only thought now concerns possible difficulties in mounting some high and vulnerable trellis as a screen. A responsible citizen should have thought of a more eco friendly solution and planted some trees or bushes to shield their eyes from this perceived nuisance. My own neighbours in Park Crescent have just erected a fullsize playroom/summer house at the bottom of their garden.
