SPACEMATE © The city in statistics Quantitative information about an area relies on four main parameters: Floor Space Index (FSI), Ground Space Index (GSI), Open Space Ratio (OSR) and building height (i. e. number of storeys). The Floor Space Index (FSI) expresses the physical density regardless of the form and function of the building. It is an indication of the gross floor space as a proportion of the total ground area. The Ground Space Index (GSI) states the ratio of built-up space to unused space by means of a percentage (indicative of the built-up area). The third parameter, the Open Space Ratio (OSR), states the amount of open space (at base elevation) in relation to the floor space. This gives an indication of the pressure on open space.
