HÔTEL
chuuut’
being an eco-tourist in a hotel
YouareverywelcometotheTarn,wherewehopeyouwillenjoy
exploring the architectural heritage of our cities, the character
of our villages, and the rich variety of our landscapes with
their natural habitats.
However, each of these very attractive
environments is dependent on a balance which can all too
easily be upset.
The département of the Tarn has therefore
taken steps to develop sustainable tourism.
Here are some simple ways in which we can all help
when we’re in a hotel.
• Limitingenergyconsumptionbyturningthelightsoffwhenever
we leave a room.
• Turning off any equipment on standby.
• Using natural light by opening shutters and curtains first thing
in the morning.
• Closing curtains and shutters when it’s hot outside, to keep
the room cool without needing to use air-conditioning.
• Keeping the temperature moderate : the ideal temperature
for a bedroom is 16°C, and 19°C for a living room.
• Turning the radiator off when opening the window to air the
room (10 minutes is enough).
• Not covering radiators up ; this way the heat can circulate
properly.
• Not wasting water (taking showers rather than baths) and by
asking the hotel staff not to change our towels every day.
• Using biodegradable washing products (shampoo, soap in
preference to shower gel…).
• Turning taps off as soon as possible and letting the hotel staff
know if there’s a leak.
• Drinking tap water rather than buying plastic bottles of it.
• Sorting our rubbish for recycling.
• Not throwing batteries, medicines or light bulbs away with the
rest of the rubbish, but finding out where there are collection
points.
• Respecting our neighbours by being careful not to disturb
them with too much noise.
The Tarn Tourist Board has put its Tarn Eco-Tourist
Charter on line, on its own website.
