Interesting Tidbits on Galesville s
first 4th of July celebration…
It was held in 1860.
The population was about 200 and there
were 50 on the committee.
The picnic was held on the
West (Upper) Table near Robert
Odell s Store.
(The Danuser house
which sits on the north east corner of
French Road and Ridge Avenue)
They processed to the grove west of J.
C.
French s house (the old Cleve Sacia
home) for the program.
The grove was in the area of the Mossberg place (now home of Eric Moen).
The business center of Galesville was in
this area on the Upper Table.
A few of the other businesses: ie:
The flour mill, hotel, and a few shops
were on the flat.
As far as the Downtown section that
we are familiar with, their were only
two buildings - one of them was the
County Courthouse.
