The Mobilization for Justice and Peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MJPC) today called on the Congolese Government and the UN s peacekeeping force in DR Congo, which is known as MONUC to act decisively to enforce the outstanding arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Bosco Ntaganda. Shocked and outraged by recent report by BBC that an indicted ICC war criminal is playing a leading role in the UN mission in the DR Congo, the MJPC is strongly urging the UN Security Council and the entire international community to put pressure on the Congolese Government and MONUC to enforce the ICC outstanding arrest warrant against Ntagandaas soon as possible. "There are serious dangers in continuing to allow Congo defy the ICC arrest warrant against Ntaganda; its sends a wrong message and could have disastrous effects in other countries" Sacramento, CA, May 18, 2009 -- Citing the importance for the newly-created International Criminal Court (ICC) to remain an impeccably impartial institution, the MJPC reiterated its call on the ICC to refer the DR Congo to the Security Council for possible sanctions. The MJPC (Mobilization for Justice and Peace in the Congo) warned that in the Congo as elsewhere, the ICC as a new international instrument to promote the rule of law and ensure that the gravest international crimes do not go unpunished could quickly lose its moral value if it does not take concrete steps to start enforcing its own issued arrest warrants. "Frankly the ICC cannot put off forever bringing the DR Congo before the Security Council for its continuing refusal to execute the outstanding ICC arrest warrant against Ntaganda," said Mak

Dear MONUC The Mobilization for Justice and Peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MJPC) recognizes your invaluable humanitarian aid to the people of Congo, especially in East Congo with all problems brought on by endless wars. However, we also note with great sadness that you have not taken steps to enforce the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against Bosco Ntaganda wanted in the Hague for war crimes. You have missed a much bigger opportunity to seriously help the Congolese government restore accountability and ensure that those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity are held to account. Despite current encouraging progress, your mission in Congo will fail without clear manifestation of commitment to promoting peace with justice. Please use every reasonable means to enforce this arrest warrant against Ntaganda. It is important for Congo and for international justice worldwide. By: Kamogelo Muvhenzhe TWO suspects, one a Mozambique national and one a South African, briefly appeared in the Hoedspruit Magistrate s Court on charges of poaching. It s alleged that the men, together with their two accomplices, shot and killed a white rhino on a private game farm and dehorned her. Lieutenant Colonel Ronel Otto, Provincial Police Spokesperson, said rangers on the farm heard shots being fired after 21:00 last Friday night and went to investigate. "The rangers traced four suspects on the farm on foot and chased after them. They only managed to apprehend two, while the others managed to run away," said Otto. The police were called to arrest Chrisweli Ndlovu from Mozambique and Inase Mkhabela of Acornhoek. They were denied bail and were remanded in custody. The s
