Two exercices which you will have to gather in a PDF file
1 > packaging 3 possibilities
a/ copy an existing one,
b/ re-use the one you did with Belinda Picaud
(if you were the one dealing with the make of the images),
c/ invent one
(from scratch or from an existing brand, whichever you can even modify the
brand if you wish)
It can be circular (like the labels for a bottle for instance)
or a 3-D box (i.
e.
like for a shoe box).
Your work will have to use several steps
of the graphic design process
Illustrator or InDesign >>
• type the text for the side of the packaging which contains the most text.

format and typeset it so it is legible (no lines more than 60 letters for instance otherwise,
choose a column disposition) and original (choice of the font for instance — see http://
www.
dafont.
com/)
(if it is for a bottle or a more cylindrical object, the same principle applies)
• Redraw the logo or find one on the web or create one (http://www.
lalogotheque.
com/ or
webchantier)
Photoshop >>
• create a title (text to see) + add a style like drop shadow or glow as we saw in class.
• add other pictures which might have to be without their original background.

Make a 3-D simulation add a shadow in the background.

• montage of the final product on a shelve (photo-montage) (copy and paste or use the
stamp tool)
Each step is important - the last step is not more important than the others.
Techniques & Elements to be used :
Layers, Adjustment Layers & Layer styles in Photoshop
Model page (Page numbers for instance) / Stylesheets in InDesign
3-D (effect menu) in Illustrator
Image placement/ importation
at least 3 glyphs like • © or ® or ™
2 > Analysis (add a picture of you like in a CV)
- except Lucie Pokorna who already did it - unless she wants to add something of
course.
In InDesign, write a text (text only : one page long) where you explain
what visual mecanisms can be used to improve visual communication.
Add corresponding illustrations.
