ast week a United States-led allied
naval task force began a major military exercise in the Persian Gulf.
This naturally led to the usual
peace-minded suspects questioning the timing of these war games and wondering if it
was a deliberate provocation of Iran.
Tensions between the US and Iran are at
an all-time high.
Iran’s support of the embattled Assad regime in Syria is one major point
of contention, while rumours of Iran weaponizing their nuclear program have Israel
threatening a first strike in self-defence.
Last month John Baird, Canada’s abrasive foreign minister, launched his own
pre-emptive strike in the form of cutting all
diplomatic ties with Iran.
Not only was the
Canadian Embassy in Tehran shut down,
Baird also ordered all Iranian diplomats in
Ottawa to close up shop and depart the
country post-haste.
