JUNIOR GOLF Texas Recruit Wins AJGA’s CB&I Invitational at Carlton Woods
HE WOODLANDS—Doug Ghim painted a virtuoso
portrait of how to play near-perfect golf on one the biggest
stages as he cruised to a five-shot victory at the CB&I
Boys Championship.
Played every February at the Club at Carlton Woods’ thrilling
Tom Fazio Course, the CB&I is the first major invitational each year
on the America Junior Golf Association’s schedule. Jim Furyk
won the inaugural playing of the event in 1987 and went on to win
16 PGA Tour events, including 2003 U.S. Open. Tiger Woods won
the CB&I Boys in 1992. Jordan Spieth closed out his junior career
with a win here in 2011.
Ghim, a 17-year-old from Arlington Heights, Ill., who signed to
play college golf at Texas, shot rounds of 70-68-66 to post 12-underpar 204. Sporting a brunt orange golf shirt and Longhorns-logo cap,
he broke Spieth’s tournament record of 10-under 206.
