The White Rose Collective: A Case Study in Heroism

Sophie and Hans Schol were brother and sister.
They were also
college students at the University of Munich in the later years of the
Nazi regime.
This brother and sister team together with a small group
of friends created an underground organization known as the White
Rose Collective.
From June of 1942 to February of 1943 the White Rose dedicated
itself to writing political graffiti and political leaflets denouncing the
evil of Adolph Hitler and the National Socialists, known to the world as
the Nazis.
During this very short time the White Rose published five
short essays that were distributed by the thousands within and
without the University of Munich.
A sixth essay was published after
the group had been captured by the Gestapo, the Nazi secret police.
