Garlic lovers celebrate in Gilroy
Gilroy, California known as the “Garlic Capital of the World”, presents the 34th
Gilroy Garlic
Festival scheduled for July 28.
The festival is presented by Raley’s, Bel Air and Nob Hill Foods
and will take place at Christmas Hill Park.
A small community in Santa Clara County with just over 48,000 residents, Gilroy enjoys an ideal
climate for agriculture with temperatures ranging from an average low of 60 to a mid-summer
high of 90 degrees.
Receiving approximately 20 inches of rainfall per year presents perfect
conditions for farmers specializing in garlic and other agricultural foods.
Sitting between two active earthquake faults, the Calaveras and the Sargent faults, Gilroy has
experienced two large earthquakes in the past four decades.
The Gilroy Garlic Festival began in 1979 and has grown to one of the largest events in the region
with an average attendance now of over 125,000 people.
