Foreword by Aline Smithson There comes a time in a person’s life where things rejected as a youth come full circle. The experiences of childhood that at one time seemed so uninteresting and limited in scope become meaningful and poignant as an adult. Revisiting memories and places of our past connect us to our present and future. Fogottonia is a book about just that, about looking at familiar places and people with a renewed interest and appreciation for a lifestyle grounded in traditions and routines. Bruce Morton’s photographs and text take notice of simple gestures of place, celebrating the common and the ordinary. He has created a remarkable visual journey of remembering, appreciating, and reconnecting with what once was and what remains. The landscape of Forgottonia, while truly rooted in American tradition, is in transition. Farms have been abandoned, businesses no longer have a familial legacy, and traces of home can only be found in the land itself. Those who remain take plea

Homage to Jack A. Clark. Jack was born in 1937 to middle class parents in Detroit, Michigan. Jack was gay, artistic, well traveled and a connoisseur of art and opera. A Harvard educated psychiatrist who left his friends and comfortable life in Bostonin 1995 on a bike for a journey with no clear destination. He ended up landing and settling in Baltimore, MD after health problems caused him to end his bike trip. Jack kept detailed & numerous journals through out his life, filled with quotes, photographs, and writings. He passed away in 2011 with no next of kin. A close friend of mine was able to salvage a small section of his papers & journals. By highlighting his writing, and editing the ephemera he collected and made, I attempt to give the viewer a glimpse into the psyche of a complicated and sensitive individual struggling with end of life issues.

Biking China’s Border by Yu Juanjuan ©2012 Published by GIllen Edits Yu Juanjuan was born in Beijing, China, in 1958. In 1987 she left on a twenty-two month bike journey around the border of China. She was the leader of a group of five bicyclists. It took her two years to travel over 40,000 kilometers, (25,000 miles) to complete this trip, the distance being equivalent to the circumference of the earth. This book documents her bike journey and tells the story of her experiences on the road and how she was the only one to complete the trip. Juanjuan moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1997. She lives with her husband, Phil Wegener, and has been teaching Chinese language and culture to children and adults privately for fifteen years. She enjoys biking, skiing, river running, and traveling. This is her first book.
