Local people, businesses and other
stakeholders are being invited to have
their say on the Draft Manor House
Conservation and Management Plan.

It will inform future decisions affecting the use,
restoration, maintenance and general management
of the prominent historic building, which forms
part of The Green, Sidcup, Conservation Area.

Prepared by the London Borough of Bexley, the
Draft Plan considers potential future uses for the
building, their compatibility with the historic
building and any risk of impacts on areas of significance.
It considers whether there is any potential for accommodating new development within
the site, in a form that is sensitive to and compatible with the historic building and its setting,
which could help to enable the restoration and
conservation of the Manor House.

Cllr Linda Bailey, Bexley’s Cabinet Member for
Regeneration and Housing, told the Chronicle:
“The Conservation and Management Plan will
guide the future use of the Manor House, while
safeguarding the listed structure and respecting its
location close to open spaces and residential areas.

I hope that everyone with an interest in this important feature of historic Sidcup will give their
views during the consultation.
”

having one for sixteen years”!
Well now everything has come full circle and
Bexley Council having spent over £1m fighting
the incinerator project have signed a twenty five
year long contract with the owners Cory Environmental Ltd to burn up to 70,000 tonnes of
our waste which starts on the lst January 2011.

Thanks to a massive effort from residents our
rubbish is sorted and paper for example earns
the council up to £50 a ton.
Plastic bottles are
recycled now and glass is as well.

Council officer Mike Frizoni told the Chronicle
Bexley residents had achieved a remarkable
record recycling 50% of their waste well ahead
of the planned targets.

Despite the heavy local opposition from both
residents and politicians from both the Labour
and Conservative parties everyone now seems
to accept with good grace that it is the place for
Bexley to take their waste rather than the landfill site at Rainham.
Transporting up to 70,000
tonnes of waste will mean at least 14,000 extra
vehicle movements a year.
Access by road will
mainly be via the Bronze Age Way to Picardy
Manor Way then to Norman Road and the
marsh site of the incinerator.

Eighty year old
wins jackpot!
It was a special night at a local bingo club in
Bexleyheath when a lucky local player scooped
over £30,000 on the High 5 jackpot.

The winner, an unnamed 80 year old woman
from Woolwich was playing bingo with her
friend when she won the full house prize of
£6,500 - and was shocked to find she’d also hit
the High 5 jackpot, taking her winnings up to
over £33,000.

Duane Curtis, a spokesman for the club commented on the win: “The lady who won is a regular at a Woolwich club and decided to come to
Bexleyheath with her friend to play bingo in different
surroundings.

This enormous win follows the introduction
to the Bexleyheath club of the cutting edge
new High 5 game which offers a unique
chance for customers to play for a rollover
jackpot.
With better prize money and even
more chances to win, the linked High 5 game
heralds the future of UK bingo.

The Dartford Arts Group will be encouraging
children to paint acrylic on canvas and kids will be
invited to join in and demonstrate your painting
prowess and top techniques!

but some with a special emphasis for teenagers

Dartford gives other
Councils a lead
Dartford Borough Council Leader Jeremy
Kite is to rein in the council’s refreshment
and hospitality budgets as part of his determination to see that the council absorb recessionary pressures rather than pass on higher
bills or reduce services for residents.

The budget used to fund a range of Member
and Mayoral services including refreshments
for meetings and the annual civic reception
was slashed as part of proposals announced at
the council’s budget meeting on Monday 2
March.

Cllr Jeremy Kite, Leader of Dartford Borough Council, says it is important for councillors to accept a fair share of the financial
pressures at a time when local families are
worried about their jobs,
“I’ve asked Civic Centre colleagues to save
£18,000 in the way we administer ourselves
and match some of the big savings I have
been able to make in the way my own office
runs.
”

Young people will be able to
once again ‘jump-in’ to a Swanley pool party when the popular
event comes back to the town
next month.

The Jump-in’ pool party will be held at White
Oak Leisure Centre on Saturday 18 July from
6pm to 8pm, exclusively for 8 to 14 year olds.

There will be a DJ playing all the latest tunes,
cool lights, plenty of fun stuff in the pool, all for
just £5!
Tickets can be purchased in advance from White
Oak Leisure Centre or on the night.

Greenwich Council trading
standards officers were joined
by the police and officers from
the government’s specialist
scambusters team to run spot
checks on builders across the
borough.

Spot checks were carried out on builders
working on private homes while others were
stopped driving their vans, at DIY stores and at
building suppliers.
They were questioned about
their identity and qualifications and asked to
provide documentation of contracts they had issued to clients.

During the day trading standards officers also
spoke to property owners and residents about
building work they were having done.
They
were also given information about their rights to
cancel contracts they had signed for goods and
services.

Investigations found much of the work to be
unnecessary while the costs were unreasonably
high.
The trading standards officers also found
elderly and vulnerable people were facing four
or five hour sales pitches and badgered into signing ten-year finance agreements where the interest amounted to much more than the cost of
the work.

Councillor Maureen O’Mara, Greenwich
Council’s Cabinet Member for neighbourhood
services, said: “If residents want work doing they
can find a reputable builder through a Good
Trader Scheme.
I would also urge householders
to contact trading standards to report any concerns and encourage legitimate builders to report their concerns as dodgy operators are
putting people at risk of crime and rip-offs, as
well as lowering the good name of the building
profession.
”

David Evennett, MP, was the
guest of honour at the recent official opening of the
rebuilt Barnes Cray Primary
School, in Crayford.
He gave
a short speech congratulating all those involved in the
project and wished pupils
well for the future.

Pupils then sang songs for the
guests, and told the audience what
they liked most about the new
buildings.
After cutting the ribbon,
Mr Evennett was given a tour of
the facilities and met David Willis,
Principal-Designate of the proposed Crayford Academy.

Also among the guests were
Children’s Services Cabinet Member Cllr June Slaughter, and Crayford ward councillors Howard
Marriner and Geraldene LuciaHennis.

David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and
Crayford, was one of the special guests at the
official opening of Normandy Children’s
Centre.

The event also coincided with Normandy Primary School’s celebration of the 65th
anniversary of D-Day, which included a live band, a
petting zoo, face painting and a reception.

Mr Evennett is pictured with Cllr June
Slaughter, Cabinet Member for Children’s
Services, Headteacher Wendy Greatorex and
three local members of the Normandy Veteran’s Association, who unveiled the plaque
marking the official opening.

Bowling along Blackheath & Greenwich won their third round clash 3-2 against Bellingham. Pat Putnam got the team off to a good start beating Ron Langston in the two wood singles 17-4. Putnam led 3-2 then...   [Plus]

Putnam led 3-2 then
scored 8 shots in four ends to open a 9-3 lead.

Langston replied with two singles but Putnam
strung together six winning ends scoring 8 shots
to close out the match with five ends remaining.

Steve Marrett followed with a similarly quick
victory over Reg Abbs.
Abbs led 5-4 before losing
the next six ends dropping 14 shots to Marrett to
trail 18-5.
There were four more shots to Abbs before Marrett clinched the match with a three on
the 13th
for a 21-9 success.
Meanwhile James King
and Andy Thomson led all the way in the pairs
against Paul Buck and Nivan McVicar.
Having
forged a 10-2 lead Thomson then dropped a five
and a single cutting the lead to two.
The home
pair responded with a burst of fifteen shots in six
ends to virtually seal the match and the tie.
Four
more shots to one against and the match was won
29-9 and the tie with it.
In the fours Bellingham’s
Bob Cumming led Neil Hornsby 18-16 at 17 ends
and in the triples Charlie French drew with Tom
Beesley when the game finished.
B&G remain unbeaten in the NWK league after a brilliant 60 nil
win away at Westerham and the LX team continued their unbeaten run with a 10 nil victory
against Eltham Cons.
In the County singles Andy
Thomson beat his Middleton Cup colleague
Michael Goord 21-17.
In the same competition
three B&G ended the chances of three Bellingham
players.
Harry Gregory beat Pat Conner 21-18, Pat
Putnam defeated Bob Cumming 21-19 and Jeff
King won 21-5 against Dave Chappell

Council officer Mike Frizoni told the Chronicle
Bexley residents had achieved a remarkable
record recycling 50% of their waste well ahead
of the planned targets.

Despite the heavy local opposition from both
residents and politicians from both the Labour
and Conservative parties everyone now seems
to accept with good grace that it is the place for
Bexley to take their waste rather than the landfill site at Rainham.
Transporting up to 70,000
tonnes of waste will mean at least 14,000 extra
vehicle movements a year.
Access by road will
mainly be via the Bronze Age Way to Picardy
Manor Way then to Norman Road and the
marsh site of the incinerator.
